First batch of chili in this pot came out great—the deep sides kept everything from splashing over the fire. Lid fits snugly and held in all the steam for tender meat.
After about four hours of simmering chili over the fire, the deep walls held all the heat evenly and nothing scorched on the bottom. The lid fit snugly enough to keep steam in, and the coals sat perfectly on the rim without sliding off.
I was worried the 12-inch size would be too heavy for packing, but the weight feels balanced and the deep walls make it perfect for stews over a campfire. The Yellowstone lid design adds a nice touch of character to an already sturdy piece.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the lid fits — it really held the steam in during a rainy weekend chili cook-off. The seasoning on the cast iron was ready to go right out of the box, no sticky residue or factory taste.

The deep walls are perfect for batch-cooking chili without spilling, and the weight feels solid for packing into campsites. Cleanup with just a bit of water was surprisingly easy.
The lid fits so snug that my stew simmered perfectly without losing steam overnight. It's heavy-duty cast iron but manageable enough for a solo backpacking trip, and the seasoning was ready to cook right out of the box.
